kyrah lee/
clinical student intern

Kyrah was once told, "You are not a product of your environment. You can and will be greater than your circumstances. Happiness and success are destined for you." Since then, she has strived to provide the same optimism and change for youth and adults in her community.

As an intern under the guidance of Crystal Joseph, Kyrah, a native of Washington, has embarked on a journey of academic and professional growth. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Dance and Movement Studies from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania (2020). Currently, she is honing her clinical skills at PsycYourMind while pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Trinity Washington University (expected graduation date of August 2025).

Kyrah's belief in the power of community and wellness is unwavering. She aspires to become an activist in youth development and cultural trauma, providing strength, guidance, and competence for those who want to create healthier habits. Through an educational-based, non-profit organization, outreach projects, and summer wellness and enrichment programming, Kyrah has laid the groundwork for youth to establish skills in communication, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving.

In the past five years, Kyrah has worked as a student success coach, teacher's aide, behavior/restorative justice support worker, summer coordinator, and program manager. Kyrah was a guest speaker at fundraising events; attended the Congressional Black Caucus as an AmeriCorps representative and American University's Equity, Education, and Justice conference; volunteered with service organizations and a community health fair; and acted as a City Year representative and speaker at the White House Student Success discussion around academic restoration during COVID-19. Each opportunity formed critical traits that embody what it means to be a clinical counselor. Although her interpersonal experiences are youth-based, Kyrah looks forward to looking at various age groups.

Kyrah is deeply committed to continuous learning and self-improvement. She strives to embody empathy, inclusivity, humility, and excellent listening skills, creating a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to explore their thoughts and emotions. Working from a multicultural, humanistic approach, Kyrah's genuine care and concern for others is evident in her passion for helping them navigate life's challenges. Kyrah's developing therapeutic modalities center around humanistic, expressive arts, and cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) approaches.

The graduate level internship is an integral part of the counseling academic and clinical training experience. Counseling and Clinical Mental Health graduate students are required to have over 700 hours of clinical training time before graduation.

Thereafter, another 3500+ hour residency commences with 100 hours of supervision. An approved clinical supervisor (Crystal Joseph, LCPC, LPC, ACS) manages all cases, conducting weekly supervision to help guide theoretical application. Please use Contact form if you have questions regarding sliding scale and insurances. Those with Maryland Medicaid are not allowed to be seen by Clinical Student Interns. Please consider these factors before requesting an appointment.
